Six tips to develop a daily prayer habit

A daily prayer or sadhana is essential for spiritual development. Buddhist prayers do not invoke an outer god or deity for favours and assistance. Instead, the core purpose of a Buddhist sadhana is to help us discover our Buddha potential within.

When we engage in a regular sadhana, we are essentially developing a deeper relationship with the outer Buddhas and calling upon them to bring forth our innate Buddhanature. We are also reminding ourselves of the enlightened qualities that we inherently possess. In addition, we are fueling our spiritual path by invoking their blessings.

To progress spiritually, daily sadhana is important. The recitation of prayers (composed by erudite masters or enlightened beings), the visualisations and the meditations will purify the vast amounts of negative karma we have accumulated in this life and past lives. It also allows us to generate the merits necessary to support our spiritual practice.
